Our new book "Insights - Inspiring insights into the inner workings of champions" will be published on November 15th. A book full of inspiring stories that only sport can write, a handful of knowledge and great exercises.
We can tell you one thing: writing a book is a very long process! Especially as parents... It took almost two years from the idea to the implementation. The origins lie in our experience. This has shown that we have learned a lot for our lives and our sporting careers by listening to people. We listened to their stories and filtered out the important things for ourselves.
Our studies have shown us that it is not just about the strange stories, but also about how to analyze them correctly, how to link knowledge together in order to draw logical conclusions that are not just based on gut feeling, but can be explained and understood through scientific or psychological processes. We have started to question, learn and combine.
In our training sessions, however, we noticed that this scientific basis only played a role in the rarest of cases. That it was more based on experience or because "that's just how it's always been done". That there were few innovative training units that took up this knowledge. Our booklet Training Buddy was created a few years ago. While the booklet is mainly about shooting units, our book is primarily concerned with training mental strength. In our opinion, there is a great need for action here in a sport where success depends largely on mental performance.
These three observations - the inspiring stories, the lack of knowledge about sports science and the lack of mental training in practice - led us to this book.
Lisa rediscovered her love of writing, and Bernhard used all his connections in the world of sport. We brainstormed together, had conversations and let ourselves be surprised. Because it wasn't always clear where the story would take us. We laughed and cried, doubted and cursed. But above all, we always believed in our idea: to pass on a portion of inspiration to you. Inspiration to look at things differently or in a new way, to focus more on people, to question things, to expand your knowledge and never stop learning. And above all: to implement a few things in sport or in everyday life.
Thank you to everyone who took part, who told us their story, for all the encouragement we received along the way, and thank you to us for sticking with it. So that more people will dare to put their ideas into action. There is always someone somewhere who can be inspired to take new steps, big or small.
